Alternative treatments
More people are turning to nonmedical care practices
By Allison Bruce,
Janet Janszen reclines on the table, rolling up her sleeves and pants legs. The room is exceptionally warm and the air carries the scent of dried herbs in the other rooms.
...She is among a growing number of people who are trying alternatives to traditional medicine like painkillers to treat and prevent certain ailments. About one-third of American adults report using some form of alternative medicine, with annual out-of-pocket costs expected to exceed $27 billion this year, according to a study from the Institute of Medicine. The number of visits to alternative-care practitioners already exceeds visits to primary-care physicians.
...She was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about eight years ago.
"I tried many, many treatments at the beginning with my M.D. and regular Western medicine," Janszen said. "As I continued on this path, I turned to alternative approaches. Unfortunately, Western medicine -- I don't think they have a handle on it yet. Basically, they treat the symptoms. If there's pain, they give you a pain pill."
...Roger Anderson said the biggest shift that will drive alternative medicine is yet to happen. People still go to the doctor for what he calls "sickness care" more than "health care." Alternative medicine will grow even more when people start thinking of it as part of prevention, rather than a last-ditch effort toward feeling better once they're already sick.

Its absolutly amazing to me how closed minded some people can be. If you take a look at Japan and the health their country is in, by the way Japan was rated Number 1 by the WHO for Health. Then you take a look at our great country and we are ranked 37th. What is it that makes Japan so much different from the USA? They practice preventative care instead of sick care. They do everything they can to keep from going to the doctor. We do nothing untill we get sick or have a problem then we go to the doctor. We have been doing it all wrong these years. Its such a simple concept. We practice preventative care for our cars, oil changes, brake jobs, tune ups. But what do we do for our health? Most people dont know how to practice preventative care for our bodies, sure we may run and exercise a little but its much more than that. Thats why the folks at Nikken have developed the Wellness Home philosophy. Simply put. Lets make your home a safe and healthy enviroment. They dont just give you some nutritionals and say ok now your healthy. Because it is more complicated than that. Yes we all need good nutrition, but what about the air we breath? Reports says the air inside our house can be up too 100 times more toxic than outside air. What about the water we drink? At my office we recently set up an AquaPour water system. Its a water cleaner that uses gravity to clean the water. You pour water in the top and it goes through various filtering agents and into the holding take where mineral rocks hang out. Then the spout actually has magnets built into it. But we had no way to get tap water into the AquaPour so we would go accross the street to PurTec water treatment plant (formerly culligan) and fill up a five gallon container of water and then pour that into the system. What amazed all of us was the very first microfilter sponge became very dirty and rust colored. But wait we are putting in good drinking water in, Imagine what it would be like if we just use tap water. Well the sponge just kept getting worse and worse and we ended up buying a new one and now we keep the disgusting one on display for everyone to see. Back to the subject, Nikken has developed a shower system, Complete sleep systems endorsed by the World Federation of Chiropractic. Our bodies were designed to heal themselves. But with all the toxins we are exposed to on a daily basis it makes it harder and harder on our bodies. Our bodies repair themselves durring our sleep (thats the way its supposed to be) but you need to actually get to the deep sleep for that to happen. Nikkens sleep system helps accomplish that. So can you imagine having a house with clean air, clean water to cook and drink, clean water in the shower, great whole food nutritionals, fitness shoes, and a great nights sleep. If everyone in the USA could do this maybe we could be number one.
